Good luck from Phoenix on your fundraising! I was 4 years old in 1961 and lived at 2102 Maple Lane on the corner of Clare Road. Dad (Harry) helped build the pool and he and mom (Polly, 81 and still with us) helped organize the original membership group. I got spotted there by a swim coach and later spent 4 years with the Lawrence Swim team competing in AAU, which was a precursor to USA Swimming. We were the “Aguahawks”. Yeah, I know, pretty corny. I also remember one year dad and Carroll DeWeese painted the bottom and put “Harry + Carroll” on the bottom. Of course they later painted over it. Carroll was married to Norma and in those simpler times, though everyone knew it was 2 men, the neighborhood joke was about my poor mother and how dad was seeing some women named Carroll. Final story, can’t remember her name but a girl of about 20-ish was a lifeguard, closing the pool down during a late PM thunderstorm and lightening it the pooldeck near her. Knocked her out, but no long term damage. I literally grew up at that pool during the summers.
